Our Story

The name halo-halo is influenced by our roots and how far we’ve come. halo-halo means “mix-mix” in Tagalog/Filipino.
The Philippines is a true blend of cultures, East and West, influenced by Chinese, Spanish and Americans. I am a Filipino-American born in New York. My parents are both first generation immigrants from the Philippines, who came to the US for a chance of creating a better life. They supported and paved the way for other relatives to embark on their own journey towards hope. I am grateful for the brave journey they took, the sacrifices they made for family and how they adapted to their new world. I met my husband, an Irish immigrant in London. We came from two different worlds brought together by love, luck, hard work and destiny. These beginnings helped shape the vision for halo-halo.

halo-halo was born after not finding quality, stylish Lowcountry/Sullivans Island apparel to bring home to NY when we used to vacation here and when we moved to Sullivans Island in 2017. We are a mixed-race family, Filipino-American and Irish living in the South with our four boys.

We were drawn to this idyllic beach town and relaxed, low-key island life. The Lowcountry has transformed from the sleepy beach towns we once knew to destinations that have attracted countless people from all over. This is a place where North meets South, South meets West and everywhere in between come together. Those that made a new life here connected through a common theme. We left bigger cities and wanted a lifestyle change. We were drawn to smaller, more laidback towns searching for balance, beauty and adventure. We come from different coasts, but we enjoy the same laidback, outdoor lifestyle. We embrace the journey of our many worlds colliding and greet adventure with open arms and open hearts.

halo-halo blends cultures, destinations and island vibes. We draw inspiration from the places we’ve lived, destinations we’ve traveled and destinations we dream of. halo-halo is a nod to Sullivans Island, the Lowcountry and living the island life. It is also the story of hope and embracing your journey wherever it may take you.

We invite you to join us on our journey, knowing this is where we belong, until the next chapter of our adventure begins.
